A Brief History
The MOE Library’s beginnings can be traced back to 1968 when a committee was formed to establish the Inspectorate Reference Library. The individual resource libraries of the Specialist Inspectors were merged with the library of the former Advisors of the Textbooks Section. In
tandem with the expanded scope of the library, a change in name was deemed appropriate and so it became known as the Ministry of Education Professional Library.
In June 1980, it was decided that the library’s role be streamlined to cater primarily to officers at MOE headquarters. The library then became known as the Ministry of Education Library & Information Centre (LIBIC).
This was subsequently shortened to the Ministry of Education (HQ) Library in October 1995. As a special library, its objective is to acquire and disseminate information relating to education so as to support the work-related reading and research needs of the professional and administrative officers of MOE headquarters.
In September 2000, the library moved to its spanking new premises at North Buona Vista. It is twice the size of the old library and has vastly upgraded fittings and ambience. It marked a new chapter in the life of the MOE Library.
